A secluded car park in Cambridge is a notorious spot for attracting for so-called doggers - people who gather to watch couples having sex in public, sometimes in broad daylight.
The car park in the Gog Magogs in can be difficult to spot from the road, and the only entrance by car is through quite Dogging in northern ireland narrow gap. One CambridgeshireLive reporter went down to investigate, and what he saw was just a bit shocking. After parking up in the lay-by besides the car park, our intrepid reporter made his way through a gap in the fence to see what lay beyond.
Our eagle-eyed reporter was on the hunt for tell-tale s of sexual activity happening in the area, and noticed an unusual amount of wet wipes in the area- not only in the bushes, but hanging from the branches of trees too. At first, he thought it was nothing, but as he continued to make his way around the site he noticed empty condom packets littered underneath the bushes.
The two men were stood about 10 feet apart from each other, not talking, just staring through the trees, looking towards the car park. One of the gentlemen was thought to be in his late 60s or early 70s, while the other was around Neither of the men had dogs to walk, and it was clear that they were not exploring the woods on the bright October day.
As our reporter approached the men turned around at the newcomer, our reporter nodded a hello before walking past them, continuing along the path. As our reporter walked along the path, he could hear movement behind him. Looking back to see what the noise was, he saw the blue of one of the men's shirt through the trees, he clearly was not just carrying on down the path. Our reporter could feel that he was being followed, so he sat down on a tree stump and watched from the corner of his eye.
The man in the blue shirt had stopped, standing behind a tree like a schoolboy playing hide and seek, taking what he thought were sneaky looks at our reporter. Deciding he'd had enough of this, our reporter informed the gentleman that there was nothing to see there.
At which point the man in blue swiftly made his way back up the path. Our reporter made the call that this was enough for the day, making his way back to the car park. He noticed that there were a few delivery vans parked up with no-one in them, and a couple of taxis. Reaching his car, he was glad to drive away. The whole experience left him feeling slightly incredulous as he tried to process what he had seen.
He'd always assumed that dogging was something which happened late at night, under the cover of darkness in a secluded spot. But this was happening in broad daylight.
He thought of the men, how they must just stand there in the trees, watching and waiting for a couple to park up in the car park and get down to business. He wondered how long the men must have waited there? Whether they were married?
And if they were, did their partners know what they were doing at lunchtime on a sunny day here in Cambridge? By Fiona Leishman.
